Meeting Registration Costs

Reminder: Members in good standing and non-members from low- and middle-income countries are eligible for lower registration fees, relative to non-members from high income countries. Only members are eligible for prizes, awards and travel grants.

In person attendance
Annual Meeting registration for members is $110, except for the discounted in-person fees for post-doctoral and international Fellows ($85), for students from US/Canada ($50), for low-and-middle income country Fellows ($50) and low-and-middle income country students ($10). Registration for the in-person meeting includes access to all virtual sessions.

Virtual participation
Virtual-only participation is discounted by 50% except for international student members from outside of North America whose virtual participation fees are paid through the 2020 Diversity Initiative. The virtual participation format will be changing for 2024 - we will provide additional information as this develops. We are looking for new ways to keep the meeting accessible to our members while being cost effective.

Registration agreement: In registering for a conference, establishing or renewing my membership, I acknowledge and will abide by the HBA Code of Ethics, including related to sexual and other forms of harassment (such as bullying, intimidation, coercion, and threats), as well as other forms of discrimination. I understand that if I do not meet these standards, incidents may be reported to appropriate authorities such as employers, I may be barred from future meetings, and/or membership or association awards revoked.

Abstract SUBMISSION

Both members and non-members are invited to submit an abstract of a proposed presentation. HBA abstracts will be accepted in both English and Spanish. After completing you conference registration, you will be emailed a link to the ConfTools page where you can submit your abstract. If this is your first time using ConfTools, you will need to register for an account. If you had an account in 2022 or 2023, you may use your existing account.

The submission deadline for abstracts is October 16, 2023.

The conference will be in-person this year with some virtual options. We will have a mix of posters, podium, and flash talk presentations (please see the website for additional information on format). We will accept abstracts on various topics and we will ask you to select a theme that most strongly fits your presentation. These themes are an open call, so we encourage abstracts on these topics from members.

During submission, you can select your preference for type of presentation, and we will do our best to honor that preference, but you may be assigned to an alternative format based on overall program considerations.

Information regarding abstract format and submission procedures, the E.E. Hunt and Phyllis Eveleth Student Prizes for graduate students, the Hilde Spielvogel Award for Outstanding Presentation by an Undergraduate Student, the International Members’ Travel Grants, and Student Travel Awards are available on the HBA website.

Please contact the HBA Program Committee Chair Amanda Veile: (hbameets@purdue.edu) for assistance with abstract or proposal preparation or on-line abstract submission difficulties.

Abstract Review Procedures

Each abstract submitted for the contributed presentations will be reviewed independently by at least two members of the 2024 HBA Program Committee regarding whether to accept/decline and whether to assign the abstract to a poster or podium session. Abstract acceptance is not based on membership status, prior participation, preferences for presentation mode, area of emphasis, or request for consideration for the special session. If accepted, an abstract will be published in the American Journal of Human Biology.

We anticipate sending the review decision to the first author via email by January 4, 2024.
